Comedogenic Ingredient List: Ingredients to Avoid
Here’s the good news: of all the ingredients in skin care products, there are just a few for which acne sufferers should steer clear. If you find these ingredients in your personal skin care products, think about finding new products! Some products list the ingredients in alphabetical order, and in these cases, it will be impossible to tell whether the offending ingredients make up a large or small portion of the product. In some cases, ingredients are listed by order of abundance. If the offending ingredient is located near the end of that list of ingredients, is likely present in very small proportions, and it may not affect your acne. Keep in mind that 80% of acne is genetically-based, meaning that only a minority of patients have acne due to skin care products causing breakouts. Liquid foundation and blush tend to be the most common offenders overall. For patients with acne breakouts at the forehead and temples near the hairline, be sure to check the ingredients in shampoos and conditioners.
